Police have arrested the man who allegedly punched a woman in the face in an antisemitic attack inside a busy midtown subway station.
Christopher D’Aguiar was accused of carrying out the violent and seemingly random attack around 11:30 p.m. on Oct. 14 at the Grand Central-42nd Street station, police said. The 29-year-old victim was in the passageway for the 7 train when she was randomly hit in the face by a man.
When she asked the attacker why he punched her in the face, D’Aguiar said simply it was because “you are Jewish.” He then took off from the station, while the victim suffered minor injuries.
The 28-year-old D’Aguiar was charged with assault as a hate crime, aggravated harassment, assault and harassment, according to police. Attorney information for D’Aguiar, who lives in Manhattan, was not immediately clear.
