‘Mad man' dead after fatally stabbing 4, slashing cops at Queens home: NYPD

Police officials say at least four people are dead, as well as their alleged killer, following a gruesome knife attack in Queens early Sunday morning.

Two cops on patrol responded to a Far Rockaway home around 5 a.m. for a 911 call reporting an assault in progress made, NYPD officials said at a morning press conference. Upon arrival, they encountered a man rolling luggage down a driveway and engaged him in conversation.

NYPD Chief of Patrol Jeffrey Maddrey said the man then took out a knife and attacked the two officers, slashing one in the neck and the second in the head. One of the officers managed to fire at least one shot and strike the suspect.

All three were removed to Jamaica Hospital where the knife-wielding suspect was pronounced dead on arrival, Maddrey said.

Additional officers responding to the scene approached the home and found a young girl laying in front of the house. She did not survive her injuries.

A fire had been started in the living of the residence, preventing police from getting inside to check on the rest of the victims, according to Maddrey. FDNY members responded and extinguished the fire.

Once first responders could get inside, they found four additional victims. One person was still alive and rushed to the hospital where they were last listed in critical condition. The three other family members were all dead.

All four victims found dead Sunday morning are believed to have died in the suspect’s stabbing spree, Maddrey said, but the city’s medical examiner will officially determine their cause of death.

The investigation is ongoing.
