Heading into the final week of Olympic events, Team USA is going to have some work to do if they want to climb the medal count leaderboard.
Sunday didn’t help those efforts. The U.S. did not earn any medals to close out the weekend.
While still among the leaders, there is now a sizeable gap between the U.S. and the top two countries, Norway and Italy.

Team USA has a chance to return to the podium Monday with six medal events on the docket. That includes women’s 1000m in speed skating, where Connecticut’s Kristen Santos-Griswold will look to win her first Olympic medal, and in pairs figure skating, where there are two American teams hoping to make an outside run at the podium.
Perhaps the best chance for a medal (or medals) will be in the women’s monobob, where the U.S. has three women in the top five positions after their first two runs.
What country has won the most medals so far?
Norway and Italy have gone back and forth for the lead in overall medals for much of the first week of the Games, and after Day 9, Norway had maintained a small advantage. Norway had 26 medals overall, more than the host nation’s 22.
Norway also has the lead in gold medals with 10. Italy once again was second, with six.
Team USA had 17 going into Monday, with five golds. Japan had caught up with the U.S. in overall medals, but the U.S. had two more golds.
France and Germany were tied for fifth, with 15 medals each.
Who has won medals for Team USA?
The U.S. won their first two medals of the Winter Olympics on Feb. 8, both of which were golds: In the women’s downhill for alpine skiing, and in the team event for figure skating.
Feb. 10 and 11 have proven to be the best for Team USA so far, earning five medals both of those days. Three more were added Saturday (gold from Jordan Stolz, silver from Jaelin Kauf, bronze from Elizabeth Lemley), giving them 17 overall.
