‘Build table,' RECON: How the Gilgo Beach killer meticulously planned his murders

The architect arrested in the decade-spanning murders of more than a half-dozen women, many of whose bodies were dumped on a remote stretch of Long Island highway near Gilgo Beach, pleaded guilty Wednesday.

The plea averts a September trial and marks a departure from Rex Heuermann’s court action earlier in the year.

Heuermann was charged with killing seven women dating back to 1993. His arrest in 2024 stunned the country. As part of his plea deal, he also admitted involvement in the death of an eighth woman.

Tens of thousands of pages were turned over into evidence. Among other documents seized, prosecutors said they found Heuermann’s “blueprints” for murder, a Word Doc containing specific instructions for pre-prep and body disposal, necessary supplies, and possible dump sites, as well as things not to do to avoid apprehension.

That document dated back to 2000, the same year one of his victims, Valerie Mack, disappeared.

Heuermann’s bail application, at the time of his arrest, included a look at that Word Doc. More on the story here.
