He made one of the most iconic catches in NFL history while a member of the New York Giants. Now, Odell Beckham Jr. is returning to Big Blue, 12 years after the franchise drafted him.
Beckham and the Giants agreed to a deal, the team announced Monday. The 33-year-old will help a wide receiver group that has been thinned by injuries.
The 33-year-old pass catcher has not played in an NFL game since Dec. 8, 2024, as a member of the Miami Dolphins. The last time he started more than 10 games was in 2021, when he split time between the Cleveland Browns and Los Angeles Rams. He played in 14 games for the Baltimore Ravens in 2023, starting six of them, in which he tallied 35 catches for 565 yards and three touchdowns.
There had been rumors of a possible reunion for the Giants and Beckham, though a contract had not yet materialized as of early May. New Giants Head Coach John Harbaugh said at one point he had spoken with Beckham three or four times over the span of a week while the latter trained in Arizona.
“It’s got to be right for both parties,” Harbaugh said at the time. “I’m pretty sure that he can make a team in the National Football League right now, but can he make a difference? It’s something he wants to do. Is his body going to hold up in the way he wants it to? And all those things are questions that need to get answered for anybody at that age.”
Beckham has five seasons of 1,000 or more receiving yards, including the first three years to start his career with the Giants from 2014-2016. Of the five best years in terms of receiving yards in Giants franchise history, OBJ has three of them. Only Victor Cruz has had more receiving yards in a season for Big Blue, in 2015.
As part of the astounding start to his career, he won Rookie of the Year honors in 2014, the first Giants player to win the award since Hall of Fame linebacker Lawrence Taylor in 1981.
In honor of the team’s 100th season, Beckham was named among the franchise’s best 100 players, landing at No. 37 on the list.
