The victim of a brutal beating in Newark over a parking dispute spoke Wednesday night to our sister station, Telemundo 47, about his attack.
Forty three-year-old Henry Fonseca was assaulted around 1:30 a.m. on Aug. 10 on Parker Street, where he resides. Two unidentified men argued with Fonseca over a parking situation on the street, prompting the assault, according to police.
The two men allegedly double parked their cars next to Fonseca’s, blocking his exit. According to Fonseca, when he asked the two men to move their cars so he could drive to work, the two men began to punch him.
According to Fonseca, both men were intoxicated when they assaulted him.
Nearby security camera footage released by Newark Police shows the moment at which both men beat Fonseca up relentlessly, while Fonseca’s wife and others who surrounded the scene attempted to get the men away from him.
When Newark Police arrived to the scene, the two men had fled.
The Newark Department of Public Safety said the victim was punched in the face and on the head, suffered lacerations on the nose and the forehead, and was taken to University Hospital for a medical evaluation.
When asked if he was scared, Fonseca said one of the aggressors mentioned being armed.
“Yes, because one of them told me he had a weapon,” Fonseca told Telemundo 47.
Fonseca also told Telemundo 47 that he suffers from a degenerative disease in his extremities, and that he suffered lesions on two right-hand fingers during the fight. He will have surgery to treat these this Friday.
Newark Public Safety Director Emanuel Miranda requested help from the public in identifying the two suspects.
Anyone who has information about either of the two men’s identities should call the anonymous tip line at 1-877-695-8477.
