1 man dead, 2 women injured after hit-and-run in Manhattan's Chinatown: NYPD

Authorities are investigating a hit-and-run that left one man dead and two women injured Thursday morning in Manhattan.

The incident occurred around 10:20 a.m. when police responded to an emergency call in the area of ​​Bowery and Canal Streets in Chinatown. A preliminary investigation indicated that a 66-year-old driver, who was driving a medium-sized truck, attempted to make a right turn on Bowery Street while traveling on Canal Street.

At that moment, he struck three people as he mounted the sidewalk and continued down Hester Street until colliding with another vehicle.

Authorities transported the pedestrians—a 77-year-old man and two women—to the hospital. The man died, and the women are in stable condition.

One person was taken into custody.

The case remains under investigation.
