PATH service at Hoboken Station suspended through Friday evening due to smoke

PATH service to and from Hoboken was suspended Friday evening after a smoke condition in the area of the tracks at the station.

Service on the Hobooken-33rd Street line and the Hoboken-World Trade Center line were halted, with no timetable for them to return. Port Authority said service would remain suspended through the evening, but did not provide additional clarity.

A fire earlier at the station led to the smoke conditions and triggered the subsequent repairs. Cross-honoring was in effect, and officials advised commuters to leave extra travel time.

It was not immediately clear what led to the smoke condition at the Hoboken station. Customers who use the line were advised to use alternative travel options, such as:

  • NY Waterway ferries at Brookfield Place and Hoboken
  • NJ Transit rail service at NY-Penn Station, Hoboken, Secaucus and Newark-Penn Station
  • NJ Transit’s No. 126 bus (Port Authority Bus Terminal-Hoboken) and No. 87 bus (Journal Square-Hoboken)
  • Hudson-Bergen Light Rail for connections between Exchange Place, Newport and Hoboken

The Newark-World Trade Center line and the Journal Square-33rd Street lines remained running, with supplemental service between 33rd Street and World Trade Center via Newport and Exchange Place in order to accommodate connections.
