1 person dead, 4 firefighters hurt after raging NYC apartment building fire

A raging five-alarm fire that broke out in a Bronx building Thursday morning left one person dead and four firefighters hurt.

According to the FDNY, the fire was reported around 5:30 a.m. in a five-story residential building on ​​184th Street between Bassford and Bathgate avenues in the Belmont section.

More than 200 firefighters and paramedics arrived on the scene within minutes.

In a press conference, the FDNY said that the fire was on the top floor and a difficult-to-access area in between the roof and the roof deck. The crew had to use four hose lines to extinguish the flames and water jets from aerial cameras.

So far, four firefighters have been reported to have suffered minor injuries, including heat exhaustion and a minor sprain, and were transported to the hospital. A person who was in the area where the fire started died.

The FDNY said that the fire led to the roof collapsing. The damage that that the building sustained is considered severe.
