‘SNL' mocks Kristi Noem firing in cold open: ‘I self deported'

The cast of “Saturday Night Live” wasted no time commenting on the recent firing of former DHS Secretary Kristi Noem.

The March 7 episode, hosted by Ryan Gosling, opened with a cold open sketch where Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth (Colin Jost) held a press conference regarding the U.S. military operation in Iran.

Hegseth kicked things off by finishing a keg stand — “Relax, it was sprite” — and took questions from the press before introducing Noem.

“After year, singular, of hard work, DHS Secretary Kristi Noem has been reassigned under the bus,” he said.

“I just want to make it clear that I didn’t get fired,” she said. “I self-deported.”

“And though I may be leaving this job, I will not be ending my mission. As I told my plastic surgeon, the work is never done. But I gave my all to the DHS and I have no regrets, because like they say, you miss 100% of the dogs you don’t shoot.”

Noem said she was especially excited for her new post as special envoy to the Shield of the Americas.

“I just saw my new office, which is at a WeWork space outside of Denver. And it is spectacular!” she said.

President Donald Trump on Thursday announced his decision to fire Noem after mounting criticism of her leadership, and his intention to replace her with Oklahoma Republican Sen. Markwayne Mullin.

The announcement came after Noem faced a two-day grilling on Capitol Hill last week from GOP congress members as well as Democrats.

The show’s “Weekend Update” segment also opened with Noem’s firing.

“On some level I feel bad for Kristi Noem. Imagine being singled out as the worst member of Trump’s cabinet. That’s like someone coming up to you at a party and saying, ‘I think you should leave, you’re making Diddy uncomfortable,'” Jost joked.

“Saturday Night Live” returns next week with a new episode hosted by Harry Styles, who will also serve as the musical guest.
