Would Mamdani sit with Trump at a Knicks championship game? Mayor says …

Could we see Mayor Mamdani and President Trump together at the NBA Finals?

Earlier this week, the president said he thinks he will attend an NBA Finals game after the New York Knicks advanced to the finals for the first time in 27 years.

So who’s he sitting with?

It won’t be Gov. Hochul, who dismissed the idea at a press conference Wednesday.

On Thursday, News 4’s government affairs reporter Melissa Russo asked Mayor Mamdani if he would sit with President Trump should he attend a game at Madison Square Garden.

“If the president comes to watch the Knicks, I’ll leave the president to watch the Knicks as he wants to watch the Knicks,” Mamdani said with a laugh.

“”One of the few things the president and I agree on is not just that New York City is the greatest city in the world, but that we do want the Knicks to win the championship,” he added.

The mayor attended Game 2 of the Eastern Conference Finals at the Garden alongside New York City Public Advocate Jumaane Williams.

Trump told reporters Wednesday that he had planned to attend an Eastern Conference finals game, “but they closed it out very quickly.”

The Knicks won the Eastern Conference finals Monday, sweeping the Cleveland Cavaliers 4-0. They’re still waiting to see who they’ll face in the finals, as the battle in the West between the San Antonio Spurs and Oklahoma City Thunder continues.

Game 6 of the Western Conference Finals tips off at 8:30 p.m. ET on Thursday, May 28 on NBC and Peacock.
